POW!

  • I love Cooper's floppy ears.  Flop, flop, flop, flop.  Every step gets a flop.  The faster he walks, the faster they flop.  It is the best.
  • Three pairs of my shoes are upstairs in the living room.  Three.  Why?  No, really, please tell me.
  • Miss Thing was fussy today.  With a loud, capital Yyyyyyyyyy.  It started when she got out of bed at 7:30 and never really stopped.  Perhaps there are some teeth moving around in there.
  • Apparently she actually woke up by 6:45.  So.  Perhaps the fussy was a combination of "Get me out of here!" and "I'm hungry!".  Did I know?  Nope.  Rocket Man didn't tell me what time he first heard her until we were eating dinner.
  • I'm tired, so tired.
  • The search for new doggy-parents is still on.  We have one couple who aren't sure and that is about it.  There are some nice people from a Lakeland Rescue looking into things for us, so let's all hope we get some options there.
  • Rocket Man gave Miss Thing a Minnie Mouse for Valentine's Day.  She complements her Mickey Mouse well.
  • I don't know why in the Clubhouse show she is wearing all pink but in...um...real life?...she is wearing all red.
  • Miss Thing doesn't care.
  • Cooper brought his shoe to me and is playing the "I'm not looking at my shoe.  Shoe?  What shoe?  Did someone say shoe?  Oh, did you want to play with my shoe?" game.
  • I wore an ankle brace to BodyAttack on Monday.  It helped immensely.  My ankle/tendons/whatevers were sore for a day and a half, but nowhere near as sore as they have been previously.
  • Whatevers - I'm a real wordsmith.
  • There's a woman in my BodyPump class who gets REALLY upset if anyone sets up their equipment/stuff in front of her.  And yet she ALWAYS sets herself up in the VERY BACK of the room.  This makes NO SENSE to me.
  • NO, REALLY.
  • Sometimes Miss Thing likes to stand REALLY close to the TV while watching Mickey or Manny.  Sometimes, like today, I let her.  This makes me a Bad Mom.
  • Sometimes, like today, I don't care.
  • Apparently men whose names begin with M are all the toddler rage.
  • Of course, today, everything made my toddler rage.
  • Not in a good way.
  • Right now, she is practicing for the Olympics.
  • In her bed.
  • As much as she practices, she better win gold.

Sad Times Ahead

It will be sad to leave our neighborhood friends here in the next month or so.

It will be sad that we will not have good HOT Mexican food (Tex-Mex, really).

It will be most sad that we have to leave our dog, our Chompy-Lones here in the states while we embark on our next adventure.

It just isn't fair to take him where we will have trouble exercising him and where our housing will be smaller, and the list goes on.

We have one person interested in him at this point, but it is just a maybe.

Hopefully we can find a home for him, because he is a good boy and has brought so much joy to our lives.

I think the giving away falls to me because Rocket Man has already told me that he does not think that he will be able to be there when the final hand-off occurs. Since Miss Thing won't understand it, perhaps she should not be there either.

I don't know.

It is just sad.

V is for Vicious

Grammie and Pop-Pop sent Miss Thing a valentine gift.

It is...well...you can decide for yourself.

She enjoys it, but to the point that letting her play with it means that when she is done (read: we tell her she is done) she cries and carries on as if the world has ended. It is quite a lot to deal with.

The dog sees it as an imminent threat. We are all about to die, he just knows it. He attacks, although he isn't sure which end requires his attention, so he alternates between the two. That is quite a lot to deal with as well.

Needless to say, it spends a lot of time "hanging out" somewhere in the depths of our closet.

And it looks so innocent....

Not a Dry Eye in the House....

...or so we thought.

Cooper's vet trip today was a very costly one, as they tend to be when going for something other than the usual checkup.

Apparently he has dry eye; that is what the vet has on the top of her list. The dry eye issue has created an infection in both eyes and now we have an antibiotic cream that we squeeze into his eyes twice a day.

At least he doesn't seem to have an issue with that.

I have to call again by Monday with an update and then take him in for another tear test a little later than that. There is a tiny chance that he simply has an allergic reaction going on, but she doesn't seem to think so.

If the second tear tests come back on the low side we'll have to give him a medication for the rest of his life...which I am really hoping is not a cream in the eye type medication, but I have my doubts.

Other than that, the day was very full but normal I suppose.

I am tired.

Best One or the Other

I've noticed some improvement the past two days in my classes at the Y. My ability in the bodypump class is directly related to the fact that I've figured out what weight I can successfully lift for each segment.

Really I just had to take the shoulder weight down some...mostly because I have wimpy ones.

Now that I know the weight that is appropriate, I can almost get the whole way through every segment without any stopping or wimping out. Overall, I complete each one, but not without feeling like my muscles are about to rip themselves off of my body and retreat in defiance.

So, you know, improvement.

As for bodyattack, there I am able to go more all-out with the cardio sections. I am also waaaaay better at the push-up track. As in now I actually do them the whole way through...or at least until my shoulder won't let me do them anymore.

I would be better at that class if not for the wimpy ankle syndrome it seems to invoke in its participants. For reals. I talked with a few classmates today and while I'm the only one who was bringing it up, I am not the only one with ankle wimpiness problems. Apparently a lot of us have experienced the achy pain around our ankles and it has caused a few of us to have trouble walking on the days following the class.

At least I am not alone.

Solidarity: keeps you going.

On another note, my dog just ate a chess square. A big one. For those of you who are unaware, chess squares are food, not broken pieces of a game board. The ingredients include a box of confectioner's sugar. A BOX. And I repeat: my dog just ate a big piece.

I figure that any moment now he's either going to run laps around the house like a crazy possessed thing or he'll just keel over dead from the rush.

One.

Or the other.

Aye, mi hija...

My child, whom I would love nothing more than to refer to her (when speaking with my husband) as YOUR DAUGHTER...but then that really isn't fair as we all know whatever difficult-ness she exhibits comes directly from yours truly, is currently in her swing, both hands behind her head, snoozing and snoring away.

Nice, huh?

Not so much.

You see, yesterday's sleep consisted of a mere 25 minutes in the stroller during Cooper's morning stroll.

Last night's sleep consisted of a mere 5 hours. Oh, yes. She "went to bed" at about 6:45 pm, but she woke up about a bazillion times between then and 11, when I went up AGAIN to help her get to sleep.

It took over an hour.

Then a little after 5 am, she woke to eat, then blabbered in her bed a bit, then rolled/crawled/slobbered over me when Rocket Man moved her to our bed while he got ready for work.

Just what I wanted, let me tell you.

Oh, and she head-butted the headboard like a champ.

I don't think THAT is why they call it a headboard, but try telling HER that.

Some good news is that she has another tooth - this time the center one up top, so no more vampire in the family. Also, the snotty nose/cough/irritable cold that comes with the teething appears to be diminishing.

Yesterday she crawled all over the place downstairs, as in real crawling, not army crawling, during her marathon do-everything-I-can-to-stay-awake session also known as the entire afternoon.

More fun was the way she played with her Chompy-lones, and he with her. She crawls to him, tries to touch him, he grumbles and shoots away, which makes her belly-laugh in delight. Other laugh-worthy doggy activities include: "chasing" him, watching him fetch his toys, touching his tongue when he's all worn out and panting, and bullying him out of his bed.

When she learns to walk and run, he is in for a world of hurt.

A good kind of hurt, but still - he's going to be so worn out!

All I'll be able to say is welcome to the club.

This Week Just Went from Bad to Worse

Those of you who know Rocket Man are well aware of his athletic...um...shortcomings. Most notable is his lack of coordination when it comes to throwing objects to a desired location. Luckily, these objects are usually Cooperchewlones toys.

Unluckily, for the Cowboy Chicken, this means he gets a rather up-close and personal experience with a unique tanning bed for cowboy chickens:

Just in case you aren't aware, the location of this lovely lamp is quite a dangerous one:

All in all, this makes for a rather crazed Lones:

Fortunately for all involved, things ended well. I was able to use my depleted baby brains to come up with a way to get that thing outta there.

A golf club.

Hey, at least they finally got some use!

Happy Halloween!

Last Sunday afternoon we carved our jack-o-lantern. It was as much of a family affair as it can be with a dog and an almost five month old as participants.

Perhaps my favorite photo of the evening is this one of the innards:

Mmmm, pumpkin guts. I remember having to do this as a child and hating it. Mostly because it is oh so slimy in there. I completely understand why Mom insisted that we do our own pumpkins, though...cause as soon as Clementina is old enough, she'll be doing hers. Icky, sticky, and ewww.

Apologies for the blurry photos. I used the macro setting for the guts shot and then forgot to change it back. The story of my life.

Whaaaa? That doesn't even make sense.

Now THAT is the story of my life...at least these days.

Notice how both the child and the father are in this photo. Because we are attempting to document our First Halloween (why? I'm not really sure, as the child is not much into it...being only zero...).

And now take note of me, channeling the Hunchback of Notre Dame (not my costume, but: Muahahaha anyway) while I carve...and the child's...feet. Awesome. LMIB, you will soon discover that your Dad has a difficult time getting whole people into photos. Although, usually the feet are the part he cuts out of them, so...at least this time there they are!

Lovely. Indeed. I am goofin' for the camera with the first successful punch-out: an eyebrow.

Everyone together now: Oohhhh...Aahhhh...

Cooper's participation is noteworthy. He is a tired doggy because of walking and then all of that scooping and scraping and then the punching and cutting. Shew! It is enough to wear a lones out I tell you!

And there you have it: our jack-o-lantern. I'll attempt to take a photo tonight when he is lit up and spooky. I also hope to remember to take photos of us in our costumes. You know, because Rootin' Tootin' Cowgirl is OH SO excited about Halloween and dressing up and OH, THE CANDY...

She has no idea...

October 14, 2008

12 of 12 October

I attempted to have a 12 of 12 that is not all photos of a certain baby. I tried, I really did. I did not succeed, mostly because I forgot to take photos in the afternoon and evening. Oops. Anyway, thanks to Chad for the brazilliant idea. All photos were taken in Houston, Texas. Here you go; my 12 of 12 for October:

8:22 am; I woke up this morning to this ensemble. Rootin' Tootin' Cowgirl was up, happy, freshly diapered and changed into her clothes for the day. Thank you, Rocket Man!

8:25 am; On the weekends we go for walks in the morning. While we were getting ready, making coffee, and changing clothes, we placed RTC in her bouncy seat. She loves to talk and talk in the morning after she is fed.

8:26 am; Cooper had a haircut on Thursday. We let the groomer give him a real 'do instead of just shaving him for the heat. She had not done a Lakeland Terrier before and she went off of a description, not a photo. I think he looks pretty good considering those circumstances. He agrees.

8:27 am; Remember how I said she likes to talk? Well, new on the List Of Things I Can Do is this. It is her mouth-trumpet; she imitates her Dad after he plays his.

12:24 pm; Ahhh, Okami. I heart Okami.

12:27 pm; Mmmm - goldfish. Pretty soon I'll be carrying containers of these with me everywhere I go. Unfortunately for RTC, she'll have to share. We'll call that a learning experience, yes?

12:41 pm; Look at me! I can stand!

12:41 pm; Ooohhhh - I see my ceiling fan! I heart ceiling fans.

12:42 pm; Daddy is so funny.

12:42 pm; Cooper: I'm not looking at the baby. Squeaky football? What squeaky football? Not looking, not looking, not looking...

12:43 pm; RTC: I've already been petting that noisy animal today, do I have to stand here and look at him too? No way, people! I shall look....over there!

3:08 pm; RTC spends her free time shoving her hands and any toys she can get a hold of into her mouth and grabbing her feet. She desperately wants to put her feet in her mouth as well, but she is not quite there yet. Boy does she work at it though.

So that is my day...sort of. I forgot to take photos the rest of the day, partly because RTC was a little tired and fussy from 2pm onward. Also, whenever I did get a break from her I may have played Okami. Perhaps.

Anyway, head over to Chad's to check out what everyone else did today!!

July 13, 2008

12 of 12 July

As always, thanks to Chad for the idea. All photos were taken in Houston, Texas.

7:31 - Sr. CC, Sta. Clementina, and Pantalones Cortez relax together.

7:32 - Here's the milk I expressed after feeding Sta. Clementina this morning at 6. Oh, the joys of babyhood.

7:46 - We all got ready and headed out for a walk around the neighborhood.

10:45 - Our Spain shelves. You can see two kinds of pottery, our San Roque book, the fan from Cordoba, our bull from Poble Espanyol in Barcelona, and (not really from Spain, but close enough), the Rock of Gibraltar memento from the project and a sample of Gibraltar crystal. And yes - we don't have anywhere else to display things in the house.

10:47 - Is this not the cutest thing ever? B&B sent this to Sta. Clementina and if she doesn't want it (though I fail to see how that could possibly happen) then I sure do! Cuteness in a wee knit package. Fabulous!

10:48 - Pantalones Cortez is wondering why oh why he isn't allowed to bark at the yard men. Aside from the fact that it is Saturday and they aren't even close to our house as they aren't our yard men, there's the whole NOT YOUR JOB factor, dog. Jeepers.

10:49 - Sleepy-head demonstrating perfect form.
How tough it is to be zero.

13:18 - Lunch was a sandwich (turkey, spinach, colby-jack and mustard) and some of these. They are addictive, so watch out!

13:19 - While I ate, I read some of this book. Mom left a few books here in case I have time to read. I've figured out how to read while feeding Sta. Clementina, among other things and so far I've read three of the books she left for me.

13:20 - Sr. CC's Mom, AKA Grammie, made this for Sta. Clementina. Everyone together now: Awww

18:12 - Bath time!

18:59 - Don't get excited; the "sleep" only lasted about two seconds after this photo was taken. Sta. Clementina is waving to all of you. Howdy indeed.

That is it. My day is still baby oriented, but she's only six weeks old, so that is to be expected. I think my Mom (Guga) will be here next month on the twelfth, so maybe the photos, and my day, will be a little more exciting!

Hasta luego,
~ CC

It's the Hard-Knock Life

For him:

A warning to all who visit:

Beware the smooshy stair, third from the bottom, in the morning hours of direct sun-to-stair-light.

I'm pretty sure he's not moving...

Super-Cooper

A Trans-Atlantic Doggy Tale

We have the best lones (lone-ess) ever.

A lones is a dog.

His name has evolved over time. It began by Señor CC calling him crazy-pants two-plus years ago when he was younger and, well, more crazy and we were in Houston. Then for a while there I found it HI-larious to call him just plain old pants. I have no idea why.

When we arrived in Spain, I explained that in Spanish, pants would be pantalones. More specifically, since Cooper is so short, he would be pantalones cortos. Señor CC has (had?) quite a knack for butchering the español, and he immediately mispronounced the name as Pantalones Cortéz. This became Cooper's alter ego. You know, the one that got grumpy when we bothered him when he was sleeping...the one that was still testing his boundaries from time to time...the one that got really upset when we first left him alone in the hotel room. HOW DARE WE!

As Cooper grew, and as we moved from small hotel room to slightly larger apartment with a balcony (joy of doggy joys) for viewing his kingdom, he settled down. He learned that he was not allowed to bark at everything that thought of moving, nor was he allowed to fuss just because another animal was fussing or making noise (we had goats and seagulls galore...not to mention cats and RATS of all things...but that is another story). He learned to walk properly and to follow many more instructions. Basically, he grew up a bit and therefore settled down.

This is when I took to calling him just lones. He is my lones, and we see lots of other loneses out when walking or on the television (his favorite shows are The Dog Whisperer and the Humane Society/Animal Police shows that come on Animal Planet). He is quite aware that I am pregnant and that things are a-changing. He is way more snuggly and cuddly and just sweet and therefore he is my lones.

Back to the point.

We have the best lones ever. He is full of character and yet all the good things all in one 17 pound package. Some proof that he is fabulous:

On our trip from Spain back to Houston, we had two flights. This meant Cooper had to be in his kennel for 24 hours. He also had to wear a muzzle (the first airline required it...though they don't remove the animals from their cages - they make you do it for the x-rays). He sat in his kennel through Málaga Airport and barked from time to time when we rolled him. When we were still, he was quiet.

Airline number one decided to tell us that they couldn't guarantee that he'd get on the second airline's plane for our connection. That is called covering one's behind. That I understand. We had confirmation with airline number two, so it didn't matter. Then they decided to tell us we had the wrong papers. That is called they don't know what they're talking about. No, we didn't have an EU Pet Passport. Would you like to know why? Because we didn't need one. We weren't going to the EU, only through it to the US. So we had all of the proper forms for THAT trip. The trip we happened to be on. Imagine that.

Needless to say, it upset me a bit. I imagine things were worse because I was exhausted what with all of the moving of furniture, cleaning, and packing I had been doing to get everything ready. It was just one.more.thing. that I didn't want to even think about.

We had to take him to the other end of the airport to let his kennel go through the x-ray machine. I held him and then placed him back in his kennel...which he wasn't too fond of. We then all went our separate ways. Once on the plane, we asked if he was on there yet. We needn't have asked because once he was on the plane, we could hear him. Apparently he is not fond of the changes in pressure when one takes off and lands, since that is when he was most vocal.

We get to our connecting airport in Paris and collect all of our bags and the dog. Once again, he barks a bit when we move but not when we are still. We get to the second airline and they are perfectly happy with all of the papers we have...in fact, they didn't even check them, just the dog. He must have looked good because off he went with someone and we were off to the plane. We couldn't hear him on the second one, but they confirmed his presence for us.

Everyone sleeps quite a bit on the trans-Atlantic flights, and it is no different for loneses. We arrived in Houston and collected our bags as well as Super Cooper. We then had to wait and wait and wait for a taxi-cab that was a van so that it would all fit. Where were we headed? Like 3 minutes away - to the rental car place. By this time, Cooper was fussing a little more...so the driver got a good tip.

We got there and unloaded everything outside the builging. I stand guard while Señor CC goes to get a car. I let Cooper out (FINALLY) and he immediately finds some grass. Amazingly, he had not relieved himself for the entire trip.

NO POTTY-GOING FOR TWENTY-FOUR HOURS.

Needless to say, it took him a wee bit o' time to finish up.

Then he began licking the wet sidewalk.

Eww.

My poor lones needed some more water. Luckily, we had some left in his water dispenser that was in the kennel. It took some doing (duct tape is awesome stuff), but I got it loose and poured it in his bowl. He then commenced water-logging himself completely.

We finally arrived at our hotel that night and Cooper was re-introduced to carpet. It went something like this:

"Ohhh, carpet, how I've missed thee. Let me rub myself all over you to show you how fabulous I think you are. Also let me sleep on as many sections of you as possible the first night that I am with you to show you how I love you."

The next day, lones had discovered that he could lie down on the window sill:

Apparently this was equally fabulous.

The most fabulous thing, however, is my lones. As I've said, he is the best lones ever.

A.K.A. My Last Post From Spain?

Howdy. I am practicing for our imminent return to the states and, more specifically, Texas. That's right. We're unfortunately leaving the wonderful country of Spain and are returning to Houston. When do we leave?

Ummm....this Friday.

Apologies for the late notice, but we've been a little busy.

How have we been busy, you ask? Well, there was a small thing, that is now a slightly larger but still small thing that began in September called pregnancy. Mine, not Señor CC's (thank goodness). We are expecting this phenomenon to end (the pregnancy), but not stop growing of course (the baby), in the first week of June. Or, at least, that is what La Doctora tells me.

Yes, I am aware that everyone thinks first babies are late. No, I don't need everyone to tell me that the uncomfortable-ness that comes at that point will most likely be extended, thanks.

Aside from that, we traveled a bit. Ha. A bit. We went to Milan in September, I got nauseous for October (what a fine thing to be), we flew to Paris in November and climbed the Eiffel Tower.

Yes, climbed. Pregnant, nauseous, climbing.

Good times.

And then came: The Great Divide

Señor CC was sent home for over a month in November. Oh. Joy. He then came home for less than a week and we went home for Christmas for a week at the end of which he was sent directly back to work away from home for two more weeks.

So, he missed all of my doctor appointments up until January. The Great Divide, indeed.

Since we've been back together, he's been working all hours of the day and night to transition and complete last tasks and I've been slowly but surely preparing for Move Version 2.00.8. We did get to drive up to Cordoba (see last post) in January for a day and we spent this past weekend in Seville for our last hurrah.

Movers came on Monday right after our return from Seville and they finished up today. In total, it took them just under six hours to do everything. We didn't have a lot of stuff.

As for those of you who may wish to contact us or who are waiting for a call from us - not going to happen. Our phones (Spanish and International) have been packed away and all we've got left is internet (woot for that) and Señor CC's cell phone.

Chompy-lones has been reunited with his kennel and has been making semi-frequent trips to it today to practice sitting/lying down in it and adjusting the towels for maximum comfort. He obviously doesn't remember what we are going to use it for...but that is of little importance. He'll know well enough come Friday.

I believe that is all for the news on our end. Was it better than the election coverage and/or Britney Spears fake-news? I hope so! I imagine this is my last post from Spain, though certainly not my last about Spain. I've still got lots to tell you. It should take me years to get it all out now that we'll be so busy.

Oh well, better busy than bored out of our minds.

Adios de España!
~ CC

December 12 of 12

Time once again for Chad's 12 of 12. Check out his site to see what everyone did today.

00:17; Sotogrande, Spain
Lucky me, I was up at this lovely hour of the night. What for? Why, to introduce the contents of my stomach to the toilet. Except that isn't entirely correct since there was really nothing in my stomach...so it was more like an attempt, but a good one at that.

5:07; Sotogrande, Spain
Cooper woke me up at 4:30 to go out. I have no idea why he was up so early; he's been getting up after 7:30 lately. He assumed that he needed his breakfast immediately following his walk, since that is the normal routine, so I fed him.

10:30; Sotogrande, Spain
I went back to bed to make up for the lack of sleep created by the toilet time and woke up around 10:15. Mmmm - mini-wheats.

11:56; La Línea, Spain
Took a trip down to the mercadillo in La Línea. I didn't buy anything, but there were plenty of people there purchasing lots for la Navidad. This woman is a good example of the amount of shopping people were doing.

11:56; La Línea, Spain
The mercadillo is held in a city park where old military bunkers sit.

15:56; Sotogrande, Spain
I ate some lunch and took a nap because I was still feeling icky and tired. Cooperchew decided he would nap on the sofa while I was in bed.

15:57; Sotogrande, Spain
I started reading this book once I was awake and Cooper snuggled with me.

18:18; Sotogrande, Spain
We played with his monster for a little while...

18:19; Sotogrande, Spain
...but he quickly switched over to his new favorite toy: his squeaky chicken.

20:01; Pueblo Nuevo; Spain
I waited around until Señor CC called from Houston - where he's been for a month now...joy of joys - and then I headed across the freeway to the italian restaurant to order take-away.

20:32; Sotogrande, Spain
This is the best pasta ever. Pear and cheese filled pasta with sage sauce. Mmmm.

21:07; Sotogrande, Spain
Once I was done eating, I finished reading the book I began earlier in the day. Then I watched some NCIS on DVD while I worked on this. It is eventually going to be a pillow for my nieces...they like to play with their baby dolls, and the main "game" deals with putting the babies down to go night-night.

23:07; Sotogrande, Spain; Bonus Photo
Speaking of night-night, Cooper was most definitely sleeping by this point. In fact, he was dreaming. I believe he dreams of chasing rabbits...since we have seen none the whole time we've been in Spain, and he does enjoy making them bound away.

That is it. I'm off to bed.

How I spent my time on Monday:

A bit of it was spent making a couple of the following:

And the rest was spent protecting myself from the cuteness oozing from doggy:

The End
